DAVIE QUILT GUILD JUNE 16 MEETING

Joanna White will be at our 

June 16 meeting demonstrating 

her silk painting techniques and showing examples of her work.  

She will demonstrate quilting 

with hand-dyed silk.  

In her artist statement Joanna says, "Over the past 30 years, my love of color, texture and beauty has been expressed through various textile mediums: sewing, weaving, knitting, felting, quilting and fabric collage.  It has only been in the last five years since I have retired that the love of all things fiber has fully been expressed through painting on silk. I have found my passion!  Silk is a living, breathing fiber that reflects light and has an inner radiance that brings forth the beauty of the wearer.  Painting on silk is like flying in beautiful skies . . . the dyes move and flow magically on stretched white silk.  Sumi-e brushes, French dye, and resists of all kinds are the vehicles for creating one-of-a kind fabrics." 

The June Quilt Guild meeting is Monday, June 16, 

beginning with a social time at 6:30 PM with our meeting and program at 7:00 PM at the Senior Center at 278 Meroney Street in Mocksville.  Meetings are open to those interested in learning more about quilting.

In case you need some inspiration and ideas for making some quilts - I'm sure you would enjoy this quilt show.  

There will be a professional scissors sharpener there if you need your scissors sharpened - and some great vendors if you need to do some shopping.

Patricia Knoechel informed and entertained us with a great program last night.  Patty is a nationally known quilter, author and speaker from California.  How fortunate we are to be able to have her at our Quilt Guild.  Our thanks to First United Methodist Church in Mocksville for allowing us to use their beautiful Family Life Center for this meeting. It was good to have so many of our members and many visitors. 

Our regular meetings are at the Davie County Senior Center 278 Meroney St, Mocksville, NC 27028 on the 3rd Monday of each month at 7:00 PM with refreshments and fellowship beginning at 6:30.  Visitors are always welcome.

We have some really interesting programs coming up at our Guild meetings - 

May 19 - Ineke Thomas  came to the USA from the Netherlands in 1964.  She had never seen a quilt until her mother-in-law gave her one.   Thomas developed an instant desire to create quilts. She makes traditional quilts, abstract “wall quilts”.  She and her husband now live in Blowing Rock.

June 16 - Joanna White - silk painting artist .  Amazing hand painted silk fabric made into beautiful garments. Joanna offers classes at her Fiber Art Studio at Sugar Valley Airport - 247 Gilbert Road, Mocksville, NC.  

July 21 - Lorraine Covington - an NQA certified quilt judge who travels all around the country judging quilt shows.  She also makes beautiful quilts and teaches classes at several area quilt shops.   Lorraine and her husband live in Clemmons.

Patricia Knoechel, Eleanor Burns sister, will be sharing 

tips, tricks, new products and patterns from Quilt in a Day.  

Since 1978, when Eleanor self-published that first book 

"Make a Quilt in a Day: Log Cabin Pattern," she has 

authored over eighty books.

Patricia is always a popular speaker - hope you can 

all be here - and invite others to attend.

Guests are welcome to join us for this informative and fun evening.  Refreshments at 6:30 with the program at 7:00.
